Congratulations
on making the decision to work in the pharmaceutical industry. You
may have already explored all the institutes that provide various
degrees in Pharma. While all pharmacists are required to complete
degrees from one out of the many Pharmacy
Colleges in India, there are a few things that you should
know before you start with your educational journey towards becoming
a pharmacist:
Know
Your Drugs
Before
you start studying in any pharmacy school, it's important to know the
brand and generic name, the therapeutic class, indication, and
schedule of the top 150 drugs. Depending on which institute you
decide to study in, you will be expected to memorise at least the top
100 - 200 prescribed drugs in India. Knowing this will put you ahead
in your class and will be one less thing to study before your exams.
Communication
Is Key
Working
in this industry requires public speaking to a certain degree.
Especially when you are directly speaking to patients. Since patients
don’t understand medical terms, it's your responsibility to explain
to them how a particular drug will affect them. Many colleges these
days incorporate classes and events in their curriculum that pushes
students to speak in public, hence enhancing their communication
skills.
However,
you shouldn’t wait to work in these skills till you start college.
Start now. Sit people down and talk about a certain topic, or talk to
yourself in the mirror. Whatever method you choose, start practising
good communication skills from today.
Study
Habits
Hopefully,
by now you have already developed some sort of study routine because
in pharmacy school you will need it. Between your lectures,
practicals, and internships, it's important you figure out the best
time and way for you to effectively study if you want to pass your
exams.
Sleep
As a
pharmacy student, you will find that you don’t have enough time to
sleep. Maybe because you are cramming 6 weeks of lectures a day
before your exam, or because you were at your internship late into
the night. No matter the reason, you will always find yourself
wanting a few more hours of sleep. So make sure, you get all the
sleep you can whenever you can.
Though
this may feel like a lot of work before you even start with pharmacy
school, it will all be worth it. Following the above points will
truly make a difference in the way you engage in class during your
years at Pharmacy
Colleges in Bangalore or any other city.
