What will be your responsibilities as a Pharmacist

After graduating from one of the best pharmacy colleges in Bangalore or elsewhere, your immediate goal might be to either look out for a job or pursue further studies. If you choose the former, then you should look for a profile that teaches you a lot and pays you well. In that case, you should look to join as a pharmacist.

Pharmacy students covet the role of a pharmacist. It is because a pharmacist is responsible for the smooth operation of the pharmacies. In case you become one, you will shoulder important duties to carry out these operations. Which are those? Let’s have a look.

1. Manage the inventory

One of your primary responsibilities will be to manage the pharmacy’s inventory. You will stock the pharmacy with the latest medicines while filtering out the ones past their expiry date. You will also have to keep a monthly, and yearly record of the drugs bought and sold. Besides, you will conduct reviews regarding the safety of the medicine stock. You will assess the safety on factors like storing it in a dry place, regularly cleaning the storage place, etc.

2. Counsel Patients

When patients enter a pharmacy to buy medicines, they expect pharmacists to guide them through the process. They believe that pharmacists have adequate knowledge of various medications. As a result, pharmacists will recommend the ones that will cure their ailments. As a pharmacist, it is your responsibility to repay that trust with the right prescription. Even if patients bring prescriptions from their doctors, it is your moral duty to inform them about the medicine and guide them about the dosage.

3. Manage Staff

As a pharmacist, you are responsible for the safety of patients. Not only do you have to prescribe the right medicine, but you also mention the adequate dosage per day. This responsibility also extends to staff, in case they deal with the patients. Your team will consist of pharmacy technicians, interns and residents. Therefore, you have to train them well for this job while being their mentor. Also, you will hire people and enforce workplace policies.

4. Be updated with new medications in the market

To be a competent pharmacist, you should be up to date with the new medicines that are released in the market. This way, you can not only guide your patients about the latest drug but also educate other healthcare professionals.
